Revitalizing Retail – Vons Remodel Project, Torrance

PROJECT OVERVIEW

LOCATION:

Torrance, CA

CLIENT:

John Cataldo Associates

PROJECT TYPE:

Vons Remodel

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Pro Engineering Consulting played a key role in the electrical and plumbing engineering design for the Vons remodel project in Torrance, CA. The scope included powering new and relocated display cases, coolers, the Dug room, and the floral shop. Additionally, shell work was done for a new bank space, and power and lighting were provided for a relocated Starbucks. Plumbing designs covered drainage for new refrigerator cases, coolers, relocated Starbucks, floral prep area, and vegetable spray areas.

CHALLENGES FACED

COMPLEX ELECTRICAL SYSTEM INTEGRATION:

Challenge: The existing complex electrical system with panels and distribution spread throughout the building required a careful study to create a single-line diagram and determine the optimal way to feed new loads.

Solution: Pro Engineering Consulting conducted a comprehensive study, creating a detailed single-line diagram to efficiently integrate the new loads into the existing electrical system, ensuring seamless operation.

WASTE ROUTING FOR COOLER CONDENSATE:

Challenge: Routing waste for cooler condensate demanded careful planning to tie into the existing waste line without the need for a costly and hard-to-maintain sump pump.

Solution: Our engineers devised a strategic waste routing plan, ensuring efficient disposal of cooler condensate without the need for additional pumps, reducing both cost and maintenance complexity.

SPACE CONSTRAINTS FOR STARBUCKS WATER HEATER:

Challenge: Starbucks required an independent water heater to fit under the counter, posing space constraints and making fixture selection challenging.

Solution: Pro Engineering Consulting worked closely with the client to select compact fixtures and strategically position the water heater to meet space requirements without compromising functionality.

ADJUSTMENT TO EXISTING AREAS FOR NEW ROOMS:

Challenge: The addition of the flower room and Dug room necessitated a study and adjustment to lighting and power in existing areas to accommodate the new floor layouts.

Solution: Our team conducted a thorough assessment, making necessary adjustments to existing areas to seamlessly integrate the new rooms, ensuring optimal lighting and power distribution.

CONCLUSION

Pro Engineering Consulting successfully navigated the challenges of the Vons remodel project in Torrance. Our commitment to precision engineering, innovative solutions, and collaborative problem-solving resulted in a revitalized retail space that meets the evolving needs of Vons and its customers.
